Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII

The last addition featured in this expansion pack is the addition of eight new maps available to play. Each one takes place in areas that haven't been covered in previous Battlefield maps, such as a snow-covered military base hidden in the mountains, huge air fields separated by an ocean, and destroyed towns that play host to large military factories. The maps are pretty fun, but sometimes feel repetitive. Its almost as if you've seen every thing here before, it's just been rearranged in a different order. Despite this, the maps still add plenty to the already plentiful variety that exists, and are sure to boost the replayability of the game.
In With The Old. . .
Graphics, music (or lack thereof), and sound are exactly the same as the original game. Period. I'm sure we all would have loved to see a graphical update to the series, but the developers probably felt the old "If it ain't broke" feeling. Every thing plays nearly identical to the original Battlefield title (except for a few new maps that seem to induce significant slowdown on my Dual 2.0 G5). So, for those of you that reported poor system performance with your machines, don't expect any miracle optimization code in this expansion pack. I'm disappointed with the lack of any new features in regards to the core elements of graphics and sound, but it's not something that should be expected from a routine expansion pack such as this one.
Conclusion
Personally, I'm slightly conflicted about Secret Weapons of WWII. On one hand, I appreciate the addition of the new maps, weapons, and vehicles. On the other hand, even when taking into account the new Objective mode, it's essentially the same Battlefield game that you've been playing. But, considering the extremely long lasting appeal of this game, that probably isn't much of a bad thing.
In short, Secret Weapons of WWII is strictly a content expansion pack to the popular series. If 30 bucks is worth new maps, new weapons, and new vehicles, then you won't be disappointed. However, gamers looking for something a little more new or inventive in terms of game play will find this expansion lacking. Personally, I feel the additions have fine-tuned the game on the whole, and have made a good game even more enjoyable. If you're a hardcore Battlefield enthusiast, this is worth buying.

• New Weapons
• New Vehicles
• New Maps
• Objective Mode
