Must…Obtain…Surround…Sound…
Immersing a player in an environment is why sound gets the big bucks. You can’t play an epic game such as MOH without the sound…you just can’t. Sure, you might flash red or something when a bullet hits you, but without the sound, good luck trying to find out which way the bullet came from and how close the enemy is. Plus, it’s almost boring. Try watching “Saving Private Ryan” with the sound turned completely off and you will know exactly what I am talking about. The MOH sound design team at EALA is the reason why each game is one of a kind. You may not think so but who decides what the bullets are going to sound like when they hit something, or when an enemy falls off a roof? Who decides the Germans will actually speak in German (which is the best part of the game. I mean, c’mon. English speaking Germans? That would just be tacky and bad)? Let’s take the beginning of the game. Wind and red dirt is whipping around and you can’t see ten feet in front of you. Your commanding officer is actually yelling over the wind and the jeep engine at you to brief you on your mission. Now, imagine if the commanding officer wasn’t yelling and just talking normally. My job is done here. What the sound team has done is finish up and put the frosting on this epic series.
A recommendation I might make is that to totally immerse yourself in this game you might want to think about surround sound. Think about hooking up your computer into your stereo system or something. Trust me, when the bullets are flying and the cake hits the fan, I’m not going to be tacky and say, “you’ll be ducking for cover”, but I will say it makes for a grand and lifelike experience. The sound is lifelike, the graphics may not be, but the sound is.
$30.00?! Hell Yeah!
I love expansion packs. They add on just enough to make the game fresh after you played the whooie out of the original. Plus the best part is most of them are only around $30.00, a reasonable price to pay for more of what you loved. Now, is this game worth it? I would have to say yes, but you might want to wait till they release a pack where they want you to get both expansion packs in the same box for like $40-$50.00 or something. If you just can’t wait I would say go pick it up and enjoy. This is one game I can’t say I’m sorry for having in my library of games. It has 11 new missions that you can complete in a day or so making it short but worth it, nine new multiplayer levels, new AND improved multiplayer battle modes, new models, skins, and high quality voice acting, and brand new (for the game) historically accurate weaponry and vehicles including the M4 Sherman tank. Don’t fear enlisting, it’s worth the experience.
