Sound
I am not normally a sucker for sound effects, but Neverwinter Nights has now completely spoiled me. In fact I found myself speaking to friends about this game's sound effects as one of the first things I gushed about. The music is airy and appropriate and actually doesn't overstay its welcome, fading out and letting the tremendous background audio take center stage.

The environmental sounds are fantastic in this game. The majority of atmospheric noises were even on par with Disney World parks and rides in terms of setting the stage. Citizens complained and wailed, water trickled and zombies groaned and shuffled. It was all there and more in a high-quality surrounding. I found myself completely involved in large part due to the ambient effects, particularly so if I had my headphones on.

Other sound elements are effective in building on the NWN's quality. Voice effects are strong and also don't overstay their welcome although sometimes they are surprisingly absent after the first few lines. Inventory and encounter effects are crisp and appropriate (the gem and ring noises sound a bit Diablo-ish, but that's okay). In-combat rants by evil villains and heroes alike are welcome and help speed up the players involvement in combat.

Conclusion
It is more than safe for me to say that there was a high bar set for the quality of this game. It is also more than safe to say that BioWare has delivered (technically MacSoft did the actual delivering, but you see my point). Neverwinter Nights is simply the best game I have played all year, in every category. It's a whole package that shouldn't be missed!

Pros:
• Excellent sound effects
• Remains true to D&D game mechanics
• Solo-style play refreshing change from the popular party-based system

Cons:
• Camera angles can interfere with character movements
• Some character options not available until the Shadows of Urentide expansion is released
